San Francisco Ballet Announces Appointment

San Francisco Ballet has announced the appointment of Ricardo Bustamante and Bruce Sansom to the shared title of ballet master and assistant to the artistic director, effective July 1, 2009. The pair will oversee a number of artistic duties in addition to those held by former Ballet Master and Assistant to the Artistic Director Ashley Wheater, who was appointed artistic director of The Joffrey Ballet in fall 2007. Prior to the appointment, Bustamante served as ballet master for San Francisco Ballet and Sansom had been director of London’s Central School of Ballet for the past three and a half years.

Bustamante and Sansom will report to San Francisco Ballet Artistic Director Helgi Tomasson. Their responsibilities will include representing Tomasson and the artistic department to a variety of constituencies including visiting choreographers, administrative staff, and dancers; assisting with casting; leading various rehearsals and Company classes; as well as working with SF Ballet School and the Trainee Program as needed, in addition to other duties.
