Stern Grove Festival Performance On Sunday, August 16, SF Ballet will perform as part of the annual Stern Grove Festival. The performance begins at 2pm and will feature Helgi Tomasson’s On a Theme of Paganini, Act II of Tomasson’s Swan Lake, and George Balanchine’s Stravinsky Violin Concerto. San Francisco Ballet Orchestra will provide live musical accompaniment for the performance, which is free and open to the public. Sigmund Stern Grove is located at 19th Avenue (at Sloat Boulevard) in San Francisco. Music and Title for New Wheeldon Work
Christopher Wheeldon has announced the music that will accompany his new work for the 2010 Repertory Season. The piece, Ghosts, will premiere on Program 2, and is set to a classical score by the same name composed by Kip Winger, lead singer of the band Winger.
Val Caniparoli to Choreograph New A.C.T. Production
Choreographer and SF Ballet Principal Character Dancer Val Caniparoli’s latest work, The Tosca Project, created in collaboration with A.C.T. Artistic Director Carey Perloff, is a fusion of movement and theater which explores the 100-year history of the famous North Beach venue Tosca Café. The project, which combines renowned dancers and actors, will debut on June 3, 2010.
In addition, Caniparoli is also choreographing a new production of The Nutcracker for Louisville Ballet, as well as world premiere works for Pacific Northwest Ballet and Milwaukee Ballet.
